Scouts from Premier League clubs were in attendance as Mason Greenwood scored in Getafe’s 2-1 win over Almeria - but the Madrid-based side are increasingly keen on extending his loan.

Greenwood scored his second La Liga goal to equalise on Saturday evening and, according to AS, he was being watched by representatives from Premier League outfits.

The 22-year-old has made a quick impression at Getafe after 18 months out of action. He moved to Getafe on loan from Manchester United on September 1 after a number of criminal charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service earlier in the year following the withdrawal of key witnesses.

An internal investigation from United, from which outgoing chief executive Richard Arnold was heavily criticised, concluded that he needed to leave the club but exonerated him.

Following the conclusion of their investigation, United said that Greenwood "made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for" but there are "difficulties with him recommencing his career" at the club.

However, he remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2025 and Getafe are eager to keep him at the club for the entirety of next season too - even if they are yet to formally signal that interest with United.

A decision on Greenwood’s future beyond this season is not expected to be made for some time but United are unlikely to make a U-turn and welcome him back to the first team set up next season.

A permanent move away from United, whom he joined as a six year old, remains on the cards and talent evaluators from England’s top flight were among the 10,906 at Estadio Coliseum for Getafe’s latest win, which moved them into eighth position and extended their unbeaten run to nine games.

Greenwood has tasted defeat only once since in 10 appearances his arrival, coming on as a substitute late in the 4-3 loss away to Real Sociedad. Supporters of rival teams have jeered him during games, with fans of Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao criticised for chanting “Greenwood, die.”
