Paul Rudd gave an inside look at his "horrible" restrictive diet and boring "reward" in order to get into get into ripped superhero form for the Ant-Man movies.
During a recent guest appearance on the podcast Off Menu, the 54-year-old actor gave the inside scoop on his excruciatingly difficult diet and exercise routine to get into shape. Paul said that during the gruelling period of time his eating plan was so restrictive that his special "reward" for training and sticking to his difficult diet was sparkling water.
On the episode, Paul said: "That's how horrible that diet was," he continued: "It was like, 'Oh, alright, I'm going to have some sparkling water now. I've earned it. Train, work out...so I was having a lot of sparkling water."

Paul said that he would 'reward' himself with unflavored sparkling water (AP)The former Clueless star jokingly admitted that he referred Pellegrino sparkling water because the Italian brand had a "softer carbonation" than other more bubbly brands. He laughed and told hosts Ed Gamble and James Acaster: "Too much carbonation, I would have exploded at that size. One bubble would take me out."

The hosts were shocked by the "reward" asking the actor if he actually felt like sparkling water was a treat to which he urged that it was "great" on such a low-calorie diet. The father of one added: "It wasn't flavoured — I wasn't going to go crazy. But it was a treat."
Paul said that his body and mind adjusted fairly well to the restrictive diet and said that it wasn't too hard and that he eventually got into the "groove" of having the same "boring" food over and over again. He added that he noticed eating smaller meals actually energised him more and felt more refreshed in the morning than he ever had before admitting the extra energy was the "strangest sensation." He said that it was less difficult the second time around as he previously needed to get ripped for his role in 2019 Marvel movie Avengers: Endgame.
When asked how his dieting regime compared to his fellow co-stars, Paul humbly joked that he tried much harder than his cast members. He said: "I think I worked out harder than everyone, I would eat better than everyone and I'd look worse than all of them," and added: "I had to work out all the time, eat perfectly, just to kind of look bad."
