Is there anything this sorry shambles of a government can get right?
On every measure, the Conservatives are failing this country. They promised to reduce migration, yet figures yesterday showed it at a record high. An analysis of the Autumn Statement reveals workers are set for two decades of falling pay. By the end of this Parliament, households will be £1,900 worse off on average. It has also emerged that the richest will gain the most from the tax changes announced by Jeremy Hunt– yet the Chancellor failed to provide any further help with energy bills.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (PA Wire)The decision by Ofgem yesterday to raise the energy price cap will increase average household bills by nearly £100. To add to the litany of Tory failure, their mismanagement of Covid cost lives and wasted billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money. Dame Angela McLean, the Government’s chief scientific adviser, revealed yesterday ministers made the “same mistake three times” by delaying lockdowns.
The Covid Inquiry has lifted the lid on how unfit the Conservatives are to govern. Their legacy is a ruined economy where people are poorer and public services are on their knees.

Labour MP Alex Cunningham asked why 34% of the children in his Stockton North constituency were living in poverty. The Home Secretary allegedly shouted across the Commons that the seat was a “sh**hole”. He has since claimed he was referring to the MP, not his constituency. This is hardly any better. Mr Cunningham’s question deserved a dignified response.
