An American tourist has branded British food "unseasoned trash" after taking a holiday break to the UK. 24-year-old Charlie, from New Jersey in the US, went viral on TikTok recently after sharing her honest opinion about food from some of our most loved British food spots.

The social media user, who has raked in over 1.1million views on her page @lunchpailgin, said: "It's been really popular to s**t on British food in the last year and I am here to tell you it's not wrong."

The foodie visited Wetherspoons, Nando's, Toby Carvery, and a tried British Chinese takeaway. But, the tourist seemed less than impressed by the local cuisine she described as "unseasoned" and "all terrible".

Breaking down what happened, Charlie explained: "I went to the UK. I had a variety of food while I was there. I was shown around by natives. So for all you Brits out there, I did go to Wetherspoons. I did go to Toby's. I did have a 'proper Chinese', all terrible."

She said British food "could never touch" American equivalents of what she had. She visited Wetherspoons and described the food as being "nothing special". The American compared the chain restaurant was the British equivalent to a Chili's or an Applebee's.

The TikToker then compared Nando's too "a mild version" of chain chicken restaurant Chipotle. She added: "It's not that special. We have one in Miami. Next time you’re in Florida, just like go visit it. It's really nothing great." In hopes of finding a classic Sunday roast, the 24-year-old visited Toby Carvery and boldly argued that America has a better roast dinner.

"They're probably better than anything that they [Brits] could ever imagine," she commented. Charlie said that her experience at chain restaurants was the only thing she could eat "consistently" while staying in the UK, as "everything else was a***ing gamble"

The woman, who was making vomiting noises as she spoke on social media, said: "Y'all do not do seasoning. I don’t give a f***, y’all don't use them." Reviewing a British Chinese takeaway, Charlie brazenly described the meal as a "suicide". The shocking review went viral, and a number of other American tourists rushed to the comment section to share their experiences. One individual said: "Louisiana boy, here. I'd rather [die]. Our worst food probably tastes delicious by comparison".

Another commented: "It always looks cold. The only food that looks good is when they make homemade Sunday roast dinners." Meanwhile, another user eched that sentiment, adding: "[British food] always looks cold lol. The only food that looks good is when they make homemade Sunday roast dinners." And a third wrote: "They don't like ranch over there, I think it's because it's too flavourful."

However, a number of Brits backed up our traditional dishes. One bloke said: "Full English breakfast almost always slaps though." Another added: "Fish and chips is probably their best." Another woman said: "I'm an American living in the UK and Wetherspoons is just for getting drunk on pitchers and onion rings." And a third wrote: "I'm from Texas and lived there for six years, and loved the food there." One other user added: "That's what you get when you choose cheap, convenient places to eat."
