I tried Virgin Wine's Christmas Crackers and discovered the best prosecco

Christmas is next month and it's officially time to start getting excited. We've started to see displays crop up in shops and I know I'm not the only one who is starting to get ready for the big day.

Typically when it comes to popping Christmas crackers I get a pair of nail clippers or something else that I don't particularly need but there's now an option that I think is great for the adults around the table. Virgin Wines has released Prosecco Christmas Crackers and you only have to put down a £5 deposit now to get them - although there's an additional £27.99 charge when they dispatch in December.

There's not much surprise with these crackers as inside all of them you'll find the exact same bottle of prosecco alongside Christmas cracker classics like a hat and joke. Inside is a 20cl bottle of Senti Prosecco Extra Dry NV.

A dry wine is typically one that lacks sweetness, so you'd think that an extra dry would be even more barren of sugar but that's actually not the case. Prosecco Brut is the driest on the market with it containing as little as 12g of sugar per litre, Prosecco Extra Dry has 12g to 17g per litre which I personally think makes it a little more palatable and festive.

You can get even sweeter with Prosecco Dry that has from 17g to 32g per litre and then Demi-Sec, which you'd expect some sweetness from, can have up to a staggering 50g.

There's not an overly strong nose on the wine but that's quickly made up for with the taste. I find prosecco very hit and miss with the blossom notes of the Glera grape not quite being my favourite but this has more of a green fruit sweetness to it. The strongest note has to be pear and then a touch of apple, but it's not a sharp apple like a Granny Smith.

It's still undoubtedly prosecco but I think it's a version that would go down well with fans of Asti. It is a very pale lemon colour and honestly one of the best Proseccos I've ever tried.

This is lovely for the festive season with it going down a treat at any point during your Christmas dinner. In each cracker you get a small bottle of prosecco, a Christmas hat as well as a joke and wine fact.

The bottles are actually screw cap which makes opening them easier and takes a way the concern of the wine falling flat if you don't finish the bottle - although it is a small bottle. Sparkling wine is best served chilled so I would recommend keeping your crackers in the fridge or having an ice bucket to hand to quickly chill them on the big day.

There are other options for boozy christmas crackers, with the likes of Lakeland offering a £39.99 package packed with 6 eco friendly christmas crackers with miniature Smirnoff, Bacardi and Baileys bottles inside. I also spotted

If you're looking for a similar type of bubbles as the Prosecco Crackers at an affordable price point then something like Asti would be a great option as it's an off-dry to medium sweet sparkling wine that's lovely for special occasions. You can reserve your crackers now by placing an order here. Please remember to drink responsibly
