Angela Scanlon has shared her fury at comments allegedly made towards her while she was presenting Robot Wars.

The 39 year old, who is currently competing in Strictly Come Dancing, opened up about comments allegedly made to her by a BBC producer while she hosted the robot combat competition with Dara O'Briain in 2016. She said she was left "furious" over the remarks and said that they were overly focused on what she would wear on the programme.

Speaking on Tiffanie Darke's podcast Fashion as a Force for Good, she explained that presenting the show had been a "big gig" for her and that she had "wild imposter syndrome". However, Angela alleges that a BBC producer had referred to her as the "glamour" even though she had been "clear" about her "strengths and ability".

She went on to claim that a friend had called her to tell her that the producer had referred to her as the "t*ts and the teeth" of Robot Wars, leaving her "absolutely furious". She continued: "The next meeting I had with this person, there was a conversation less around the content – which in my mind was my job – and more around what are you thinking you’ll wear? I was like, 'That’s not important'.

"It felt so reductive and so presumptuous that I would have arrived with my lippy on and my legs out to entertain the lads, and that was my value. Absolutely not." Angela went on to present the show in a boiler suit, ensuring that there was no skin on show.

The Mirror has reached out to the BBC for comment.

It comes after Angela recently opened up about the heartbreaking choice she was forced to make after her daughter's birth. The Irish TV presenter, who is known for her work on BBC ’s The One Show and BBC Two’s Your Home Made Perfect, revealed that she felt "wildly vulnerable" after giving birth three years ago.

She shares two daughters with husband Roy Horgan. The couple welcomed their eldest daughter Ruby Ellen in February 2018, and went on to welcome their youngest daughter Marnie Fae in February 2022.

Angela confessed that she found maternity leave hard because her focus and drive had been all about work for so long. In an article for the Daily Mail, she wrote: “So much of my identity was tied to my career - having a baby and taking time off work meant I didn’t know who the hell I was any more.”
