Sir Cliff Richard left mortified after blunder as fans 'feel sick'

Sir Cliff Richard left a BBC reporter in stitches after mistakenly referring to AI as 'artificial insemination'.

Of course, AI actually stands for artificial intelligence and it is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, such as computer systems. However, Cliff, 84, got his AI knowledge mixed up during an interview on BBC Breakfast - leaving viewers in hysterics.

The Wonderful Land hitmaker spanked chaos among viewers while chatting to BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt when he mistakenly referred to ‘artificial insemination’ after singing a song for the cameras. Earlier in the interview, the music legend reflected on his health and admitted he has been forced to slow down due to his age.

However, he jokingly added: "Fortunately I can still sing and that’s the main thing and I don’t need AI for help. Cliff then broke into song, belting out his tune, My Kinda Life, before shaking the BBC reporter’s hand.

"And I didn’t need artificial insemination," Cliff said about his singing skills, which left BBC reporter Charlie in fits of laughter - as well as viewers at home. "That is the best line of all. That is a whole different ball game," he joked, as Sir Cliff replied: "Oh dear."

Naturally, viewers at home rushed to Twitter to react to Cliff's hilarious blunder. "I neither want or need to see the words/names/phrases “Cliff Richard” and “artificial insemination” used together in any context. Ever," joked one viewer.

"Someone somewhere was bound to say it. Just didn’t expect it to be Cliff. Love him," another echoed. "Not Cliff Richard making me feel sick this early in the morning," another quipped.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cliff revealed that he has celebrated 65 years in the music industry, and while he is having some back issues, he still has no retirement plans. "I used to have trouble with the lower part of my back and this chair is not good for it because normally I’d have a cushion," he said.

"I feel fantastic. I am going on tour, I have got a book out, I’ve got an album coming out, and when the tour starts they are going to film it and I am going to be in the cinema," he added. "So [how do] I feel? Fabulous."

Cliff added: "I have in the last few years tried to slow down because otherwise, I don’t do as much,’ he explained. ‘Well, for instance, I am going to do a tour, I try to make sure that I have a day off every other day so I am not constantly singing.

"And obviously, I don’t want to retire but I am probably going to stop like a red light… I have still left myself open to things for as long as I can. Fortunately I can still sing and that’s the main thing and I don’t need AI for help. I won’t need it because the minute I can’t sing I won’t do it anymore."
