Adam Thomas breaks silence on Strictly axe fears after battling illness

Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Thomas has revealed his hope to be back on the dancefloor tonight after being hit by a second bout of illness.

BBC bosses told the Mirror they were plotting 11th hour contingency plans after the Waterloo Road star was deemed too ill to appear on live TV on Friday night

A spokesperson for the show said they were still waiting to confirm Adam's appearance as the "health and well-being of the Strictly cast and crew is production’s absolute priority.” Adam had been forced to withdraw from rehearsals last week amid concern of a 'flu outbreak' among the stars.

However he made it back to perform a stomping couples choice to a Backstreet Boys medley with partner Luba. Adam has now revealed he is hoping to make a strong comeback this weekend for the hotly-anticipated Halloween special.

Taking to Instagram, Adam shared pictures of his two children who had travelled down to Manchester with his wife Caroline especially to see him perform. The dad said the youngsters were heading to the final rehearsal this weekend where he was waiting to strut his stuff with Luba.

"SCD week 6 rehearsals here we come." penned Caroline as she shared a family shot with 11-year-old Teddy and five-year-old Elsie. Adam then shared her photos to his own account as he seemingly confirmed he is back in action.

Caroline had even gone to the lengths of dressing her kids up for the spooky spectacular, joking "Amazing what you can do with mascara and a hair grip. Oh and diamantés we stole of her witches hat yesterday," as she showed off the impromptu costumes to help her kids feel part of the crew at the BBC studios.

Concern was raised when former Emmerdale actor Adam had to withdraw from his It Takes Two interview on Friday leaving partner Luba Mushtuk to go it alone on the show. Luba explained to viewers that Adam was too sick to appear in front of the cameras and needed to rest.

Fleur host told viewers there was a reason Adam hadn't made it to the studio this week: "Unfortunately Adam is feeling a bit under the weather, but please give it up for the lovely Luba Mushtuk." Giving further insight, Luba responded: "It's so strange to be here by myself."

"[Adam] is resting now. He just didn’t feel very well but he is resting and getting ready for tomorrow night," she added hopefully.

It's the second time Adam has been struck by illness this series after sitting out group rehearsals last week when he was left bed-bound. While the BBC show was dealt another blow after Amanda Abbington announced that she was leaving.

The Sherlock actress had been partner with Giovanni Pernice but ruled herself out of the series citing 'personal reasons.' Amanda said she was 'filled with regret' to leave as she said goodbye to her co-stars, while refraining from mentioning Giovanni by name. The apparent snub led some fans to guess the rumours about a tension between the two personalities was true.

Posting a picture of her gold dance shows, Amanda wrote: "It is with deepest regret that I had to leave Strictly. I did not come to this decision easily or lightly but for personal reasons I am unable to continue. It was an absolute joy working with my fellow contestants, they are a beautiful, hardworking and talented group of people who I love and who I will miss seeing every Friday and Saturday and competing alongside. I want to thank the incredible Production team and everyone on Strictly who looked after me and who are so kind and caring. It’s a wonderful bunch of people and I’ll miss all of them."

Days prior, Giovanni had also taken to Instagram to pay tribute to his partner with a gushing tribute. "Amanda... I am so sad we can’t continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love."
