Tesco shopper 'stabbed' in violent mass brawl at store as man, 37, arrested

A Tesco shopper was allegedly stabbed and suffered serious injuries after a violent brawl at a store, with police arresting a suspect.

Officers rushed to the supermarket's Meir Park branch in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, at 2.05pm on Friday, December 30, after a mass brawl broke out.

Staffordshire Police cordoned off part of the car park for a number of hours as part of their investigations.

A 37-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, reports Stoke-on-Trent Live.

Two men, one who suffered facial injuries and another who suffered arm and knee injuries, were taken to hospital.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing on Lysander Road, Meir Park.

"One ambulance, a paramedic officer, and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car from Cosford attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a man with serious injuries.

" He received treatment at the scene and was conveyed to hospital for further assessment."

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them with any CCTV or dashcam footage via Facebook, Twitter, or call 101, quoting incident number 338 of 30 December. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We are assisting police with their enquiries following an incident outside our Meir Stoke-on-Trent Superstore on Friday."

Staffordshire Police said in a statement: "A man has been arrested after two men were assaulted at a supermarket in Meir.

"We were called at 1.40pm on Friday (30 December) to the store on Lysander Road, Meir Park, Stoke-on-Trent, following reports of violence.

"Officers attended alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Upon arrival, one man, in his 20s, had sustained facial injuries and another, in his 40s, had sustained injuries to his arm and knee.

"Both men were taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

"The injuries, though serious, are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"A 37-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent."

The arrested man has since been placed on conditional police bail while inquiries continue.
