The Netflix documentary-makers have admitted the Mirror front page used to show the reaction to David Beckham’s alleged affair was altered.

The original introduction on our 2004 story said: “David Beckham and his personal assistant Rebecca Loos did have an affair, her brother claimed yesterday.” But the one shown on screen said: “The England captain dismissed the allegation as ludicrous.” Meanwhile, our original headline said: “My sister did have an affair with Becks” but Netflix only showed “Affair with Becks”.

One insider insisted: “It’s not faked. It’s a montage that has been spliced together to reflect the whole story. It’s a technique used all the time in archive programming and there are dozens of examples of it throughout the whole show.” Netflix and the producers have declined to comment.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Loos has hit out at Beckham saying he is “playing the victim”. His former personal assistant, who claimed she had an affair with David almost 20 years ago, says that the football ace made her “look like a liar”.

And she accuses him of trying to make it seem like the suffering caused to his wife Victoria Beckham was her fault – when it was his. The 47-year-old sold her story detailing the three-month affair after alleging it took place in 2004. David left his family in the UK and moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid in July 2003.

In the Netflix series, made by his own production company, Rebecca is not named but David, 48, says the stories suggesting he cheated were “horrible” and left him “feeling sick every day”. Hitting back this weekend, Rebecca said: ‘‘Yes, the stories were horrible, but they’re true. It’s all, ‘poor me’.

“He needs to take responsibility. The worse bit for me is that he says he didn’t like seeing his wife suffer. That bothered me. Because he’s the one that’s caused the suffering.

“He can say whatever he likes, of course, and I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim. He’s making me look like a liar – like I’ve made up these stories.”
