A councillor has warned that some residents whose homes were flooded during Storm Babet will not be home before Christmas. Gavin Nichol, who represents the Brechin and Edzell Ward, said the full extent of damage caused by the hellish storm had yet to be fully established.
Mr Nichol said: ”It will be an extensive period. It will take a fair bit of sorting. These houses won't be ready by Christmas.”
He added that the town’s flood defences, which were first upgraded in 2016, would now need to be reviewed, with one possible option would be to plant more trees in the surrounding glens to restrict the flow of water.

The force said they were called at around 10.35am on Saturday to the "sudden death" of a woman in Tapton Terrace. While investigations are at an early stage, it is believed the woman died due to flooding in the area.
ScotRail said the majority of its services will be able to run as normal on Sunday, but a number of lines, including Aberdeen to Dundee and Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, remain closed, according to the BBC.

Meanwhile, staff manning a North Sea drilling platform, around 146 miles east of Aberdeen, were airlifted to other sites on Saturday after four of its eight of its anchors came loose during the storm.
It comes as flooding continues to cause chaos around the country with travel disruption across parts of Yorkshire, Scotland, East Anglia and the East Midlands on Sunday. Storm Babet brought huge damage and disruption across the north of England and Scotland.
Angus and Aberdeenshire were badly hit by the storm and teams will be clearing debris from roads in the region and assessing damage to bridges. The red and yellow weather warnings covering Dundee and the north-east of Scotland have expired and conditions are expected to improve on Sunday.
