Miami Heat star Tyler Herro has outlined his ambition for the 2023/24 NBA season and the future.

Herro was drafted by the Heat in 2019 with the 13th overall pick and was tipped to be a future franchise player in Miami. His four seasons in the NBA have seen the point guard average 17.7 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game.

The 23-year-old was handed a four-year contract worth $130 million (£107 million) in 2022 before the start of last season. He played a key role in helping the team reach the postseason but spent very little time on the court in the playoffs.

Herro sustained a serious hand injury in Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks. The point guard would require surgery and would not play in the rest of the postseason, which saw the Heat reach the NBA Finals before losing in five games to the Denver Nuggets.

With the 2023/24 NBA season on the horizon, Herro has already outlined his ambitions for the campaign. The Heat point guard has expressed his determination to be among the best in the league.

“I’m one of the best young scorers in the league, and I have the potential to be the best scorer in the NBA at some point,” Herro told The Ringer when asked what his trade value should be.

“I want to get myself to a place where I’m not thinking about if I’m getting traded every summer,” Herro added.

The summer saw Herro linked with a trade away from Miami, with the Florida-based franchise heavily linked with a move for Damian Lillard. In the end, Lillard would be traded to the Bucks from the Portland Trail Blazers, ending links of a possible move to Oregon for Herro.

Even though the prospect of a trade involving Lillard is no longer an option for the Heat and Herro, there is still speculation that the point guard could move on. Despite this, Herro is determined to prove he can be a success for the franchise that drafted him more than four years ago.

“At the end of the day, I was drafted here and I feel like I gave a lot to the team and a lot of the organization and a lot to the city,” said Herro.

“So that part can’t get ignored even though it is a business and it is for Kevin Durant or Damian Lillard. There’s still this whole other human side of it. So of course I’m gonna feel some type of way.”
