Conor McGregor renews 'inbred' attack on UFC champion Islam Makhachev

Conor McGregor has insinuated that UFC champion Islam Makhachev is inbred ahead of his rematch with Alexander Volkanovski.

Makhachev will take on the Aussie for the second time after Charles Oliveira pulled out of his own sequel with the lightweight champion at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi this weekend. The Dagestan fighter has long been a target for McGregor who has repeatedly claimed Makhachev's parents were cousins.

And he renewed his attack by taking to social media to say: "This guy is a gumbeen. This is what happens when cousins have sex and have a child together. This is the result." McGregor as responding to a clip of Makhachev taking aim at heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

The 155lb king said: "This is what UFC champions have to do, like a real champion, you ave to this this fight; it doesn't matter how many days or who it's going to be, if you're a real champion you have to figh. They put him [Jones] No.1, the No.1 guy tight now but who has he beat in his last five fights? We dont have any names from top pound-for-pound rankings and I just want to say about the rankings, this is bullshit and I'm not following them anymore."

Last year, McGregor took to social media to write: "The Makhachevs" with an image of what appeared to be a nipple on someone's leg with the caption: "When your parents are cousins". McGregor's rivalry with Makhachev stems from the Irishman's bitter feud with Khabib Nurmagomedov who choked out his rival in their grudge fight five years ago.

Makhachev is considered the heir to to Nurmagomedov's throne as the best fighter in the UFC and remains unbeaten having defeated Oliveira last year to win the lightweight crown. He went on to outpoint current featherweight champion Volkanovski earlier this year and the 145lb champion has stepped in at 12 days' notice to replace Oliveira who pulled out injured.
