A former FBI special agent has revealed the seven things she would never let her young daughter do. Tracy Schandler Walder, from Texas, worked as a staff operations officer at the CIA's Counter Terrorism Center for four years before becoming a special agent at the FBI in Los Angeles.

The 44-year-old now teaches criminal justice and critical issues in domestic terrorism at Texas Christian University but often breaks down world and crime news for members of the public as @theunexpectedspy on Instagram and TikTok. In a video posted this week, the former spy listed a number of things she would not let her eight-year-old daughter do given the professions that she has had.

"I might ruffle some feathers with this one, but here’s 7 things I would never left my kid do as former CIA & FBI," the caption on the video reads. Walder, author of The Unexpected Spy, insisted the first thing she would not let her daughter do is go to sleep away camp. "I'm not comfortable with it and she's not at an age that I am comfortable having her do that yet," the former agent says.

Walder then said she does not have a gun in her home. "It's just something that I choose not to do," she says. Thirdly, the mum-of-one says she will always lock away prescription medication and alcohol.

She adds: "Number four - this one may be unpopular. I will always Google all of the teachers that she has, any teacher or coach that is in her life, as well as the parents of the friends that she hangs out with. The reason I do that, because I know that teachers are background checked, is because I want to understand what their social history is like and those things don't come up on a background check."

The former FBI agent also says she will not let her daughter walk to and from school by herself, while she also does not let her use the bathroom in a restaurant or any kind of public place by herself.

"Finally, currently she's at an age where I do not let her play unsupervised without an adult present," Walder finishes. The video has been watched more than 26,000 times and people have flocked to the comments to praise the mum.

"I agree with you 100 per cent," one person wrote. Another said: "Yes yes yes to infinity. I have twin boys and exact same." A third said: "You've seen too much I imagine. Thank you for sharing."

Walder studied at the University of Southern California before joining the CIA as a staff operations officer. Upon joining in 2000 she was placed in the Counter Terrorism Center and would "oversee potential operations" and be a "link between the intelligence community, the field and headquarters". After leaving the CIA, she became an FBI special agent specializing in Chinese counterintelligence operations before starting her career as a teacher in 2006.
