Israel's Prime Minister has shared a harrowing photo of a child's blood-drenched bed following claims the bodies of at least 40 youngsters were found in one village.

Benjamin Netanyahu posted the horrific image on the platform formerly known as Twitter, with the caption "Hamas is worse than ISIS". The disturbing photo shows a child's bed sheets soaked with blood and more smeared all over the floor. Toys are scattered around the room and the wall shows signs of what may have been an explosion. Mr Netanyahu did not specify where or when the photo was taken.

Israel is preparing its forces at the border for a full-scale invasion of Gaza and has formed an emergency wartime cabinet as the gruesome conflict enter its fifth day. On Wednesday Mr Netanyahu claimed Hamas had beheaded soldiers, raped women, shot children in the head and burned people alive. He vowed: "Every member of Hamas is a dead man".

It comes after soldiers discovered stomach-churning scenes of horror at in Kfar Aza - a village near the Gaza border that was targeted by Hamas militants. Armed with guns, grenades and knives, the militants killed entire families in their beds early on Saturday morning after storming over the border.

Israeli forces took back control of Kfar Aza on Tuesday and recovered the bodies of at least 40 babies and children, Israel claimed. To date more than 2,000 people have killed since Hama militants staged the surprise attack on Israel by land, air and sea on Saturday.

It is the deadliest attack in Israel's 75-year history as Hama gunmen rampaged through towns and targeted a music festival, killing more tan 1,000 people abducting people and taking them as hostages to Gaza. There are fears the bloodshed will only get worse with Tel Aviv preparing for a ground offensive and Hezbollah threatening to launch more strikes on Israel from Lebanon and Syria.

Pope Francis called for peace and King Charles branded last week’s Hamas raid on Israel “appalling”.
