Condiment connoisseurs have begged Heinz to bring back a former favourite staple which was last seen nearly a decade ago.

Heinz Toast Toppers were much loved by people at lunch or dinner times and were tins of creamy mushroom or cheese and ham which were spread onto lunch. When grilled until bubbling, it completed the toasted bread treat. Despite its popularity, it was discontinued in 2015.

A fan recently reminisced about the toast toppers and lamented its loss to meal times, leading to others voicing their own opinions about its demise. One person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter : “Shame Heinz toast toppers have disappeared, they made a quick and tasty snack when I used to pop home in my lunch hour.”

A petition to bring them back started in 2020 garnered more than 700 signatures from Heinz fans. It read: “Toast toppers have been discontinued for quite a long time now. Over the years I have seen thousands of people talking on social media over how much they miss them. Let's get Heinz to take note and bring back toast toppers!!

One person replied: “I really miss toast toppers! I ate them at least a few times a week. So tasty, easy and a cheap lunch. Please bring them back!” Another added: “I loved toast toppers, really tasty and would love for them to come back in the supermarkets.” People are still signing it to this day.

However, the Sun reported Heinz replied to one fan: “Sorry, but there are no current plans to bring them back. Will let our team know how much they are missed for you." Earlier this week Heinz announced the release of three new flavours of beans - and they might prove divisive amongst connoisseurs. The launch is set to coincide with National Curry Week, giving Brits a chance to spice up their beans on toast.

Heinz is no stranger to experimenting with new flavours including Tikka, Jalfrezi and Vindaloo. They will be available in from October 5. Tikka is described as creamy and mild with warming spices, while the medium Jalfrezi is fragrant with punchy spices. Vindaloo, meanwhile, is hot and intense with 'thrilling chilli'.

Inspired by bean lovers already adding a dash of heat to their dishes, Alessandra de Dreuille, director of meals and insights for Heinz, said: "We think it's about time that two of the nation's favourite dishes, curry and Heinz Beanz, came together, and as soon as we heard that Brits were adding spice to their Beanz, we knew we were on to something.

"We've been hard at work perfecting these recipes that are guaranteed to tingle your taste buds. So, whether it's Jalfrezi Beanz on Toast, Tikka Beanz with a side of naan, or even Vindaloo Beanz for those that can handle the heat, our new Beanz Flavourz are sure to be the Beanz you don't know you love yet."
