As much as you might love your job, as many parents know all too well, sometimes it's impossible to simply leave your home life at the door - especially if you're waiting on tenterhooks for some all-important news. Chef Matt Tebbutt is best known to fans as a presenter on Saturday Kitchen but, away from the studio he's also a husband to wife Lisa and dad to their two children Henry and Jessie.
During an episode of the beloved Saturday morning food show, viewers got a glimpse of Matt's family-orientated side after he went completely off script to share an emotional text message he'd just that minute received from daughter Jessie, who has been studying for a degree at Goldsmith's University in London.
Toward the end of the show, the camera panned toward a beaming Matt, who had put his presenting duties to one side for a minute after receiving a text from Jessie about her final results. Holding his phone aloft, Matt grinned: "I've just had a text from my daughter. Proud dad moment. She got a first at university."
Guests on the show were quick to applaud Jessie's wonderful achievement, including Strictly Come Dancing star Anita Rani. Showing emotion, an evidently delighted Matt continued: "So well done Jess congratulations. [...] Yeah sorry, I have just taken over TV for my own gain. Right, let's get back to the script."
Many viewers watching at home could relate to Matt's pride, with one person tweeting: "Great show as ever. And huge congratulations to your daughter, Matt. Well done on achieving a first." Another cheered: "Matt is so proud of his daughter he had trouble staying composed there. Well done for getting a first."
Saturday Kitchen fans in hysterics as guest repeats rude word live on BBCLast month, Matt took to Instagram to share a sweet father-daughter graduation pic with hardworking new grad Jessie, who has apparently balanced her academic studies with drumming in a band called Cape Orange. Speaking with the Daily Express last year about his experiences parenting grown-up children, Matt revealed: "My daughter is now at University in London, so we get to meet up pretty often... usually over a long lunch. I've entered a new phase of parenthood where we get to do grown-up adult things like that which is amazing."
Saturday Kitchen airs BBC One on Saturdays at 10am
