Kate Abdo left Jamie Carragher speechless when he found out the glamorous CBS presenter began her working life at Greggs.

The broadcaster, who has worked for the likes of Sky Sports, is a household name in the industry now heads up several shows, including CBS' coverage of the Champions League, which she presents with the likes of Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Carragher.

However, like everyone, she had to start somewhere and the 42-year-old from Manchester revealed that as a youngster she worked behind the counter at one of Britain's favourite and most renowned fast food places - much to Carragher's surprised.

Abdo said: “[I used to work at] Greggs in Stretford. I wasn’t dripping in Louis Vuitton so much back then - It was my first job.” Carragher's reaction underlined how surprised he was, but his colleague then dropped another bombshell when she admitted she was fired from the role.

She added: “I got fired. I got my tongue pierced and I couldn’t speak to people properly.” Nevertheless, Abdo, when discussing the chain, claimed it was "an English tradition, an English staple" as the panel got talking about the various products on offer.

After Abdo's confession that she was once on the Greggs payroll a CGI image was bought up showing her in the usual attire worn by employees of the chain. Abdo's career has come a long way since then with the presenter fluent in several different languages that has allowed her to work in different countries across different sports.

Greggs meanwhile, who began their journey in Newcastle, have recently announced further expansion having opened up a net new 82 shops since the beginning of the year which takes its total store estate past 2,400, topping the roughly 2,300 Subways nationwide, with more shops planned.

Greggs expanded its online offering when they partnered up with Uber Eats, and say that its evening trade has become an increasingly important part of its business, with its share of total sales at 8.8%.
