TV property guru Martin Roberts has been a well known face on property programmes such as Homes Under the Hammer for many years.
Yet he's shocked fans with his real age as he reached a milestone birthday, his 60th. The star took to social media to reveal his age as he celebrated his "big day". He told fans: "A big day for me today as I enter my (gulp) sixties, but the amazing things that are happening at my pub renovation in Wales, and the effects it is having on young people and the community, is completely overshadowing the fact I’m now eligible 4 a Seniors railcard."
Fans rushed into the comments to celebrate the star, as one wrote: "Happy 60th birthday Martin. You look amazing. Have the best day." Another added: "Happy birthday! 60?! You look younger than that. You might be quizzed on the train with your railcard so take some ID." You look younger than 60 mate, must be the Welsh water you are drinking. Have a great day," said a third.
The birthday tributes come after Martin revealed he suffered a severe health scare last year as he was left with "hours to live" due to heart problems. The property presenter underwent a life-saving op after developing heart pain, where doctors discovered he had pericardial effusion, which is a build-up of fluid around the heart and needed life-saving surgery.
Speaking to the Mirror last year, he has been open about struggles with his mental health since the health scare as he said: "“I have struggled quite badly since I nearly died last April. It was scary. I’m not young, but I’m not old, and to suddenly have your life come within a couple of minutes of ending, you do play the 'what ifs?'.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likeness"The health recovery I think is probably a lot quicker than the mental recovery. The mental recovery is that fear that what happened, will it happen again? Suddenly, it’s a Monday morning, am I going to die? That slightly irrational fear, but when you’ve been through what I went through it’s a hard thing to move on from."
Martin has fronted various property programmes over the years but is best known for co-hosting BBC daytime show Homes Under The Hammer alongside Lucy Alexander, Dion Dublin, Martel Maxwell, Jacqui Joseph and Tommy Walsh since 2003, which follows people as they transform homes and properties they buy at auction. In 2016, Martin appeared on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, which saw him caught in a feud with EastEnders actor Larry Lamb.
