Gogglebox viewers hit out stars as they fail to recognise famous singer

Gogglebox left several viewers in disbelief as the stars seemed to be unfamiliar with the iconic singer Lulu.

The show, which aired on Friday night (September 29), featured the usual cast of TV watchers reacting to an episode of BBC's Blankety Blank. During the episode, host Bradley Walsh asked a contestant to name a famous Scottish person, and several members of the celebrity panel suggested singer Lulu. However, it was evident that some of the Gogglebox stars were perplexed by this.

Show participants Amira and Amani were particularly confused, with one admitting she would need to "find out who this Lulu is". Meanwhile, Pete and his sister Sophie mistakenly thought Lulu was American. This surprising lack of recognition prompted many viewers to express their astonishment on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

One viewer commented: "Goodness me! No one knows who Lulu is!! Am I that old?!" Another humorously added: " All these people saying they don't know who Lulu is probably made her want to... talk in a loud voice at the TV."

A third viewer expressed their disbelief, stating: "I can't believe they don't know who Lulu is! I feel old even though I know who she is and I'm 27." A fourth added: "How can they not have heard of Lulu..."

In addition to the surprise over the lack of knowledge about Lulu, viewers also took to social media to comment on the new mother-and-son duo, Elaine and Seb. Despite being a fresh addition to the Gogglebox family, some viewers are yet to warm up to their unique TV-watching style.

One viewer remarked: "New families always take a while to bed in but this new mother and son combo just don't sit right. They come across as just too knowing and performative."

Another fan echoed the same sentiment, writing: "Normally I tell people to give the new families time to find their rhythm on the show and give them a chance, but Elaine and Seb are doing my head in."
