Ghislaine Maxwell's interview with TalkTV last month led to her being put in solitary confinement after prison authorities accused her of profiting from speaking to the media, claim reports.

The 61-year-old, who is serving a 20-year sentence in Florida for child sex trafficking crimes, appeared on British television in a series of video calls.

During the interview she laid the blame for her downfall on paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Bosses at Federal Correctional Institute Tallahassee were concerned because inmates are only friends, family and lawyers on a closely-vetted list are supposed to be approved for “video visits”.

Fearing the disgraced socialite had sold her story to a journalist, Maxwell was taken to the Special Housing Unit – small cells where inmates are kept locked up for all but one hour per day.

A source told DailyMail.com that Maxwell had been handcuffed and taken away around two weeks after interview aired.

The incident reportedly left Maxwell upset and in tears as she denied receiving a fee for the interview.

"Nobody saw her again for three days," the source told the Daily Mail. “The SHU is not a nice place. You go in there if you're suicidal, if you fail a drug test or you get in a fight.

“It's like a little box and you're only allowed out to shower once a day. There's no contact from anyone, no privileges, they slide your meals through a slot.

“Normally people stay there for at least two weeks but she was out in about 48 hours because there was no evidence she was guilty.”

Maxwell, who is not eligible for parole until 2037, was convicted of procuring girls for financier Epstein, who hanged himself in 2019.

In the interview with Jeremy Kyle, which was broadcast on January 23, Maxwell complained about her 6am starts and a dull prison diet of tofu and beans.

TalkTV said she was not paid for the interview, during which Maxwell refused to apologise to Epstein's victims and women who feel betrayed by her.

When given the opportunity by Kyle to apologise, she instead suggested that victims should direct their hurt towards the authorities that allowed Epstein to carry out his crimes.

There was also controversy surrounding her claim that a notorious photograph of Prince Andrew with Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre had been faked.

Federal inmates are entitled to 25-minute video calls with an approved list of family and friends.

It is thought that Maxwell believed that she was operating within the rules as her long-time friend, the filmmaker Daphne Barak, was asking the questions on Kyle's behalf.

The insider told the Daily Mail that Maxwell “hadn't been the same since” after being put in solitary, and felt she was being bullied by officials.
