Noel Gallagher slammed by fans for previously using Russell Brand in 'creepy' music video

Musician Noel Gallagher has been criticised by fans for including comedian Russell Brand in his 2011 music video for his High Flying Birds song 'AKA... What a Life!'.

The video features comic Brand playing a sinister doctor who then coerces a woman into drinking a potion, which fans have labelled as "creepy" as allegations against Brand have emerged. Fans have revisited the video since sexual allegations have been made against Brand.

The comedian and former TV and radio presenter has been accused of sexual abuse, rape and emotional abuse as the result of a combined investigation by Channel 4 Dispatches and The Times. Four women shared their experiences of abuse by the comedian between 2006 and 2013 when the star was at the height of his fame. Brand has denied all allegations and said that all his relationships have been consensual.

Meanwhile, two more alleged victims have since come forward, with one claiming that he "exposed himself" to her before laughing moments later. Another claimed he "pinned her onto a sofa" and forced kisses on her, despite her pleas for him to stop.

Gallagher and Brand have had a firm friendship for almost two decades since becoming pals in 2005. The pair are so close that Brand was Gallagher's best man when he wed his wife Sarah McDonald in 2011. In Gallagher's 2011 video, he cast Brand to be a dark character in his music video for his single AKA... What a Life!. Fans have now come back to the music video on YouTube and commented on the "creepy" behaviour of Brand. One fan commented: "Erm Noel, you might want to edit this video now mate......'. Another wrote: "Who regrets casting Russell Brand in this now creepy video!".

A third wrote: "The Russell Brand portion of the video hits a lot different now what with the allegations."

A fourth commented: "You know, I used to hate the video for "AKA... What A Life!" for spoiling an all-out rocking song with Noel Gallagher's messiah fantasies. NOW I loathe it even more for letting #RussellBrand parade his creepy r*pe/mind control routine. #Dispatches."

The comments from fans come after the allegations against Brand emerged last week, and were aired in a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary airing on Saturday night (16 September). In a video released ahead of the programme airing, the comedian has denied all allegations put to him, He said: "I've received two extremely disturbing letters or a letter and an email. One from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid stuff like community festival should be stopped, that I shouldn't be able to attack mainstream media narratives on this channel.

"But amidst this litany of astonishing rather baroque attacks, often very serious allegations that I absolutely refute. These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream when I was in the newspapers all the time when I was in the movies. And as I've written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous."

Brand continued: "Now during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that then, almost too transparent, and I am being transparent about it now as well. To see that transparency metastasised into something criminal, that I absolutely deny, makes me question: is there another agenda at play?"
