Movie icon Marilyn Monroe's final home in Los Angeles was saved from demolition after widespread outrage from fans calling for the property to be designated as a historical landmark.

The home, located at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive in Brentwood, was saved from being demolished after Los Angeles officials intervened. The property was where Marilyn died in a bedroom of her home at the age of 36 after a barbiturate poisoning. News of the proposed demolition sparked anger with many claiming the home is a historical landmark of Hollywood.

Los Angeles city councilwoman Traci Park claimed she faced hundreds of calls after the news broke begging her to save the home. She told The Guardian: "The overwhelming sentiment here is clear. This home must be preserved as a crucial piece of Hollywood’s and the city of Los Angeles’ history, culture and legacy.”

After a number of convincing calls, Traci introduced a motion for the home to be considered a historic preservation, which was met with great support before the council unanimously moved to revoke the city's demolition permit. Traci's efforts also resulted in prevention of any major changes to the property in the future.

The beautiful Spanish Colonial property, purchased for $8.35 million this year, spans 2,900 square feet was includes four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a swimming pool, and a guest house. The owners who were keen on demolishing the property did not reveal what their future plans were for the land.

The actress named the home "Cursum Perficio" a Latin phrase meaning “My journey ends here”, which is written in tiles on the home’s front porch. Marilyn bought the property for $75,000 during her third marriage with playwright Arthur Miller and was the only home that the Some Like It Hot star independently owned.

Traci told the news outlet: "For people all over the world, Marilyn Monroe was more than just a movie icon. Her story, from her challenging childhood growing up in orphanages and foster homes to becoming a global sensation, is a shining example of what it means to overcome adversity."
