Bruce Springsteen has postponed the rest of his September shows with E Street Band after falling ill with peptic ulcer disease.

Just two weeks earlier, the 73 year old icon was "taken ill" and was forced to cancel two concerts in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18 at Citizens Bank Park, with his team telling fans they were "working on rescheduling the dates". They have now been rescheduled for 2024.

And now, in a statement shared on his Instagram, it has been revealed that the rest of his tour performances for the month will be cancelled due to advice from medical professionals.

Springsteen commented: "Over here on E Street, we're heartbroken to have to postpone these shows. First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We'll be back to pick these shows up and then some.

"Thank you for your understanding and support. We've been having a blast at our US shows and we're looking forward to more great times. We'll be back soon. Love and God bless all, Bruce".

Bruce's fans were quick to send their well-wishes, with one commenting: "Bruce, we hope you make a 100% recovery and get back on the road as soon as possible. There we will be waiting for you. Get some rest and take care. We love you."

Another wrote: "Take as long you need to heal & come back healthy. We're not going anywhere," while a third added: "Health first. Take your time boss."

It is unclear whether the rest of his scheduled concert dates through November and December will go ahead as planned.

This is not the first show that Bruce has had to postpone this year because of health concerns. On March 9, the Nationwide Arena in Ohio announced that his show that night would not move forward. They attributed the issue to "illness" but did not specify further. Just like for Philadelphia, fans were assured that the dates would be rescheduled and that they should keep their original tickets.

Following the cancelled show in Ohio, two more cancellation announcements were made. The first was at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, and the second was at MVP Arena in Upstate New York. Both of these cancellations were also attributed to an unspecified illness.

Bruce has suffered from health issues before. Prior to a tour hiatus from 2017 to 2023, he had been riddled with poor health. He underwent surgery to alleviate some chronic numbness that he was experiencing in 2013.

The numbness affected his ability to play guitar and was caused by some damaged disks in his neck.

While the surgery didn't directly aim to treat his throat, it did result in his throat being cut open. His vocal cords, which are obviously key in his profession, were tied off so that doctors could put new adisk in.

He told Vanity Fair that he was unable to sing for three months. When asked how he had felt, he said: "A little nerve-racking. But it's been very successful for me."
