Multiple homes were impacted by a blaze that broke out in Baltimore, Maryland. Shocking footage from the scene showed thick plumes of smoke billowing from the flames that had wrapped multiple rowhomes in the city.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and it is under investigation. It was earlier reported that the fire was expanding rapidly.

It is not known whether anyone was hurt in the fire as of yet or whether anyone was home during the blaze. Baltimore Gas and Electric crews had also been dispatched due to arcing utility poles that are posing a risk to firefighters.

The fire department shared pictures of the scene showing the fire extinguished and the properties severely damaged. The fire was upgraded to 2-alarm, according to Baltimore City Fire Department spokesperson Kevin Cartwright. The fire originated at the back of the properties and rapidly spread towards the north, according to Mr. Cartwright. A resident of the area, Brian Sullivan, who lives just a few houses down from those damaged, said he was working from home in his basement when he heard a loud bang.

As per Mr. Sullivan, when the fire broke out, his wife took hold of the dog while he rushed to the corner to dial 911. He said he witnessed the flames bursting out of multiple windows and quickly spreading towards his residence, but fortunately, his home remained unaffected by the fire.

A group of people were sitting on stoops and the sidewalk while fire trucks were visible in the background, he added. After the fire was extinguished, Mr Sullivan gazed up at the smoldering structures, while a ladder from the fire department laid on the roof of his house.

He told the Baltimore Banner: "It’s a good reminder to check for fire risks, exits. But I could have used a gentler reminder." We'll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and videos on this breaking news story.
