He's England’s captain, record goalscorer and one of the finest players ever to pull on a Tottenham shirt, but Son Heung-Min says Tottenham are learning how to cope without Harry Kane.

Son, who with Kane formed the Premier League's deadliest partnership, in no way denigrates his former Spurs’ team-mate and the massive role he played in the club’s recent history. He was gutted when he joined Bayern Munich and says his departure means everyone in Ange Postecoglu’s side must step up.

“Harry is a very important player, don’t get me wrong,” said the South Korean star. “He’s one of the best players in the world and one of the best players probably I would say to work with.

“If you have Harry Kane in your team, you have 20 to 30 goals in your pocket safely. But this is part of football and if someone had to leave, you have to respect that.

“Harry did a massive, massive thing at Spurs so I think in the end, the club and players, you respect each other and move forward. Especially now because we have no Harry Kane, so everyone has to step up, everyone has to take a big responsibility on the pitch to make and score goals.

“Everyone is good enough to step up, we have good players. Everyone has to take a big responsibility to score the goals and be hungry for the goals.”

Son is playing his part and Tottenham’s new skipper bagged a hat-trick as Spurs recorded their biggest-ever win at Turf Moor.

As brilliant as Son was, he was pushed hard by James Maddison and the England playmaker looks an absolute snip at £40million in today’s transfer market. Maddison scored a sublime effort to take his tally to two goals and two assists in his first four Premier League appearances for Spurs.

Burnley could not contain Maddison with his trickery and dribbles and Son is already enjoying playing with him.

“This is special from him,” he said. “In that position, before he shoots, I was already celebrating because his right foot is a joy to watch.

“His passing, his movement, the way he sees the game is very clever. He controls the game, on the ball, off the ball. I’m very happy with him.”

It all looked so different when Lyle Foster gave Burnley an early lead, only for Son, Maddison and Cristian Romero to hit back for Spurs.

Josh’s Brownhill’s strike in the final seconds was little consolation for the Clarets and after losing just three league games during their romp to the Championship title, they have lost all three of their opening games, all at Turf Moor.

Their next game at Nottingham Forest in two weeks’ time already looks huge and Brownhill says they will use the international break to get ready.

“It’s a long season,” he said. “It’s real tough one you know. It’s completely different to last season, we’ve just got to stick with it and keep learning. We’ve also got to take it up another level and that’s what the Premier League is, and we’ll all do that.

“There’s a little bit of a break now, the chance to sort of relax and then come back against Forest. That’ll be a game that we’ll be 100 per cent going after that win. It’ll be a big game for us.”
