Fortnite is constantly changing and evolving, with the map getting major overhauls with every season. The Project Nova Fortnite mod is designed to let you relive older seasons of the game.

Fortnite is a very different game than it was back when Fortnite Battle Royale first launched back in 2017. Each season of the game brings in new mechanics and changes to the map, so after six years of iteration, it's not a shock to say that the game has evolved. But even with huge changes like the introduction of Zero Build mode (which is the best way to play if you ask me) players will still yearn for the days of Season 1 and claim that the game fell off.

That's where the Project Nova Fortnite mod comes in. Project Nova is a third-party client that allows you to play Fortnite as it was during past seasons, from map layouts to weapon and skill rotations, as well as being able to use classic skins.

However, some players are worried about the safety of the mod – as you should be with any .exe file you download – as it requires you to disable some settings of your antivirus software to install. It's also worth noting that the mod does technically violate the Epic Games Terms of Service, however you're not at risk of being banned as the Project Nova Fortnite mod doesn't connect to your Epic Games account.

Is the Project Nova Fortnite mod safe?

The Project Nova Fortnite mod requires players to disable some settings of their antivirus software to actually install it, and as a general rule it's best not to download random .exe files.

When questions of Project Nova's safety were raised on Reddit, some players have reported running into nasty files after install. One user said " after downloading the game I suddenly had a redirect malware in my pc. After doing a full scan which took about an hour I found out it was a file inside of the game." While another user claims to have found a number of Trojans after install, including malware and ransomware.

It's worth noting there are other players in the thread who claim to have had no issues with the Project Nova Fortnite mod, and there are a large number of people playing it if the Discord numbers are anything to go by. Personally we don't think it's worth the risk – mainly because turning off your antivirus and downloading .exe files is almost always a bad idea – as well as the terms of service issues. It's probably best to stick to remakes of older Fortnite maps on the UEFN.
