Richard Madeley says that some TV presenters are ridiculous people who have let fame go to their heads.

The outspoken Good Morning Britain host, who spent 13 years co-presenting This Morning with wife Judy Finnigan, insisted that fame had even left some believing they were more important than other people. He said: “There are a lot of people in television on screen who it goes to their heads.

“We all know them. And you can see that they think because they have access to people’s living rooms through the TV, it makes them somehow better. And I just think that actually makes them look ridiculous.” Richard, 67, said he first noticed how self-important some hosts were, when he started as a reporter at Border Television in 1978.

“Quite quickly I formed a contempt for people on television who thinks that it makes them in any way, shape or form special,” he told Kaye Adams on her How to be 60 podcast. “Because it doesn’t. Just because you can read the autocue or learn a short piece to camera out in the field. Why would you think that would make you any better than anyone else?”

Richard, 67, also revealed that you may soon see him on screen with his son-in-law, ex-rugby union pro James Haskell, 38, who is married to his daughter Chloe, 36. He added: “A couple of companies are pitching ideas. Basically, we go on some kind of journey where we’ll argue, tease and get on, along the way.”
