Located in the heart of Transylvania, the Sibiu Christmas Market attracts hundreds of thousands of Christmas-loving visitors every year, and Brits can join them for as little as £12.99 with Wizz Air.
Under the watchful eye of a towering, star-topped Christmas tree, the Romanian market sprawls across the picturesque Piata Mare Square in the ancient city of Sibiu. With over 100 stalls on offer selling hand-crafted gifts, food and drink from across Romania and beyond, the festive fairy lights and mulled wine, it is one of the biggest Christmas attractions in all of Eastern Europe.
During the festive period, the city bustles with winter events for shoppers to enjoy including an ice skating rink, children’s playgrounds, entertainers and a lively, festive atmosphere.

If you like your Christmas shopping to have a distinctly European feel, Sibiu is a historic city with Germanic origins which can be seen in the old town architecture, charming squares, Gothic churches, Baroque palace and medieval watchtowers.

This year, the market festivities are expected to run from November, 17 until January 2, 2024, and guests are welcome to join in the celebrations from 10am until 10pm daily. The market is only closed on Christmas Day.
For savvy seasonal shoppers, budget airline Wizz Air is offering one-way flights from London Luton to Sibiu with prices starting from as little as just £12.99 on November 17, 2023.
The direct flight is a doddle and with a flight time of just under three hours, shoppers could feasibly enjoy a day trip to Sibiu, leaving them more money to spend on gifts.
Flight prices to the Romanian market fluctuate between £12.99 to £48.99 depending on the date of travel, and Wizz Discount Club members could even bag a flight for the rock bottom price of just £8.99, which is less than you'd expect to pay for a sandwich at the airport.
For visitors who want to stay and explore the beautiful city of Sibiu for longer, hotel prices remain reasonable even during the market season.
Some of the best we found include the trendy Art Hotel for £70 per night, the elegant Hotel Am Ring for £47 per night or the contemporary Harteneck Apartments for £87 per night.
How to get flights to the Sibiu Romanian Christmas Market for less
Frequent flyers can snap up cheap flights simply by signing up to become a member of the Wizz Air Discount Club. The entry-level 'light' membership is free and provides members with coupons for low-cost deals and onboard benefits.
Members can save at least €10 on ticket fares from €19.99 and an additional €5 on checked-in 20kg or 32kg bags, as well as regular discounts and promotions.
Flights to Sibiu include a free carry-on bag, but upgrades are also available for passengers wanting to take larger-size hand luggage or checked baggage. Upgrade package prices to Sibiu start from around £67 in November.
Adventurers who expect to use Wizz Air on a regular basis could upgrade their membership to receive further benefits. Standard Membership for the account holder and one other is available for £34.99 a year, while the Group Membership offers deals for the account holder and up to five others for £69.99 per year.
