It may still be summer (just) but Duran Duran are already thinking about Halloween.
The legendary
band are planning to celebrate spooky season early by releasing an entire album devoted to all things creepy and kooky. This week, the Hungry Like The Wolf hitmakers let the cat out of the bag about Danse Macabre – an album of brand new songs, reworked tracks and covers.
On the 13-track album, they will take songs by the likes of The Rolling Stones (Paint It Black), Billie Eilish (Bury A Friend) and Talking Heads (Psycho Killer) and give them a dark, electropunk twist. Keyboardist Nick Rhodes explains that the whole idea is to celebrate “the joy and madness of Halloween”.
He says: “The idea was born out of a show we played in Las Vegas on October 31st, 2022. We had decided to seize the moment to create a unique, special event… The temptation of using glorious gothic visuals set to a dark soundtrack of horror and humour was simply irresistible.”
Duran Duran back together with terminally-ill Andy Taylor to record new albumThe band’s lead singer Simon Le Bon adds: “It’s about a crazy Halloween party. It’s supposed to be fun!” As all good parties on October 31 are. The title track from the spooktacular album is out today and the full release will hit the shelves on October 27 – just in time to soundtrack all the parties on the big day itself.
It’ll certainly give The Addams Family a run for their money…
