A new trailer for the final series of Endeavour has hinted at death and betrayal as DS Endeavour Morse and DCI Fred Thursday reunite for a new set of cases.

Fans of the beloved drama are eager to find out how Endeavour (Shaun Evans) and Fred's (Roger Allam) relationship will develop in the dramatic conclusion.

In the new trailer, the detectives reunite to solve more crimes but it appears as if the colleagues are locked in a cat-and-mouse chase.

Endeavour can be heard saying: "Life will divide us in to winners and everyone else," while Fred adds: "Nothing stays buried forever."

Could this hint at a tragic end for Fred to bring the beloved series to a close?

Speaking about the new series, Endeavour star Shaun addressed the possibility that Endeavour and Fred are under real threat.

He said: “It’s a revisiting of what we discovered in ‘Neverland’. That thing of London and Thursday being pulled back into that world which he thought he'd left. It’s unfinished business. And also that police corruption at a high level. We never really closed that circle at the end of ‘Neverland’ and this is an attempt to do that. With the same threat, the same conflicts now as then. It’s unresolved. Which is a very pleasing way to look at the whole series of stories we have told."

Fred's son Sam (Jack Bannon) returns in the final series and his presence is set to be vital to the underlying plot line.

Shaun explained Sam's return will impact Fred and Endeavour greatly. He said: "“We’ve spoken before about the surrogate father and son relationship between Endeavour and Thursday. But in this series Sam, Thursday’s real son, comes back.

"He is not in a great place and needs all of Thursday’s attention. That further isolates and pushes Endeavour outside of that particular family circle. Thursday is not his father and Morse is not Thursday’s son. He is on his own. That all offers something interesting andnew. Jack Bannon, who plays Sam, is fantastic. It was so lovely to welcome Jack back. He is a brilliant actor.”
