A former pub's outdoor space has been dubbed the "UK's worst beer garden".

The Brass Button pub in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, became infamous on social media in 2020, with photos of its lacklustre beer garden circulating widely. The images showcased a haphazard arrangement of chairs and a makeshift railing, seemingly plonked down in the middle of an industrial estate. The tweet that started it all was captioned: "Nice beer garden in Motherwell if anyone fancies a pint."

Despite the widespread mockery, one loyal patron leapt to the pub's defence, stating: "It's a great wee hub in our scheme where the locals enjoy great pints and friendly banter all year round. Everyone from the staff down to punters love the Brass Button and long may our wee pub stay that way."

However, it seems the Brass Button's charm wasn't enough to keep it afloat, as it has since closed down.

The notorious images have resurfaced on Reddit, and as expected, it's sparked further ridicule, reports Daily Star. One user reminisced: "The brass button brings back good memories...pop in for a pint, quick snog."

One disgruntled patron quipped: "There is a reason to get drunk," while another likened the establishment to a "beer abandoned-parking-lot."

However, not all comments were steeped in criticism. A defender of the beleaguered boozer wrote: "Us working class heroes just need a seat and a glass of cold beer. I don't see anything wrong."

Another chimed in with a personal perspective: "Idk man, as a recovering alcoholic, that's the kind of place I could have spent plenty of time in. No pretensions at all, and cheap drinks. That place's sole purpose is to get hammered in. ."
