A foreign fugitive landed a job cooking at a Haven holiday camp in the UK.
Burglar Marek Wojnar, 27, prepared meals for unsuspecting families at the resort in Dorset. Bosses who hired him had no idea he was wanted 1,700 miles away in the city of Ostrava in his native Czech Republic. A source said: “It is shocking he was able to get into the country and cover up what he’d done.”
Wojnar was convicted of burglary and sentenced to 10 months in 2020 but managed to slip into Britain while on bail. He is wanted for other burglaries in his homeland – as well as an assault which left a man in hospital for a month. Wojnar passed a criminal records check carried out by Haven bosses. But the truth emerged when he was arrested at work in October after Czech authorities tracked him down.
Rockley Park (Publicity Picture)Rockley Park in Poole fired Wojnar – who then skipped an extradition hearing. After being put on Dorset’s Most Wanted list, he was eventually traced to Manchester. Police are set to escort him on a flight home this week after he agreed to extradition at a hearing in London.
Haven, which runs 31 camps, said: “We co-operated fully with authorities and took immediate and necessary action as soon as the investigation permitted.” The Home Office was approached for comment.
