Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert.com website explains how you can claim free food from some of the UK's most popular chains.

Saving money on food is great, particularly as it's so expensive at the moment - but getting it for free is even better. In this week's MSE newsletter, Martin Lewis' team shared how you can grab some free stuff from Burger King and Krispy Kreme.

The team explained how often, fast-food chains offer discounts and freebies to new and existing customers through their apps and membership "clubs". The team noted that it was worth downloading these apps and "keeping an eye out" for new offers which popped up.

Currently, Burger King, Krispy Kreme, Taco Bell and Greggs are offering the "top" freebies, according to MSE. With Burger King, you can get yourself a free burger or fries by downloading the Burger King app, YourBurgerKing. If you sign up for the rewards you will automatically get 200 points which is enough for a cheeseburger, hamburger, drink or regular fries.

However, you can only use the points at 279 of the chain's 500 plus locations - so you will need t check whether your local Burger King is offering the freebie. You can do this on Burger King's website.

If you have a sweet tooth and fancy a doughnut, you may want to sign up for the Krispy Kremes reward programme as new signup gets a free glazed doughnut just for joining.

The MSE team explain that all you need to do is download the app and create an account and you can also register online at Krispy Kremes website. Once registered, your welcome doughnut can then be redeemed at a Krispy Kreme store or at a Tesco cabinet.

You should be aware that when registering, you will need to decide where you want to redeem the welcome doughnut, and Krispy Kreme will email you with all the instructions on how to claim it - you then have 30 days to claim it. As well as this, rewards members can also claim a free doughnut of their choice on the month of their birthday - so if you sign up close to your birthday you could claim double the doughnuts.

Krisp Kremes rewards programme is a points based loyalty scheme and for every £1 you spend you earn 10 points or "smiles". 100 smiles will get you an original glazed doughnut and 150 smiles can get you a hot drink of your choice.

The MSE website also noted Taco Bell, although it does have a small catch. At the Mexican-inspired fast food chain you can get a free crunchy taco for signing up for its app for the first time. Although to claim the free taco you will need to make a purchase to get the freebie.

Greggs is the final freebie listed on its "top freebie" list with the chain giving a free hot drink to those who sign up for their rewards scheme through the app. Once you sign up you will be given the free drinks rewards which you have 31 days to claim. Your free hot drink can also be any drink as well as any size.

The MSE team also noted that in the past they have also seen Greggs offer free slices of pizza, sausage rolls, doughnuts and more for those with the app.
