The Rolling Stones may have just teased a new album, leaving Mick Jagger and Keith Richard fans buzzing with excitement.

An advertisement recently printed in the Hackney Gazette hints that the English band is about to drop new music, nearly seven years after the release of their last record.

The promo for a fictional glass company called 'Hackney Diamonds' appears to have text nodding to a number of Stones' lyrics, including, "Our friendly staff promises you satisfaction. When you say gimme shelter, we'll fix your shattered windows."

If that wasn't enough to prick curious ears, the 'i' in the 'Diamonds' is the Stone's tongue logo. At the bottom left-hand side of the vintage-esque advert, 'Est. 1962', which is the same year that The Rolling Stones was formed, is written. The name of the company's website, which is run by the Stone's label and features an invitation to sign up to a mysterious mailing list, is also printed.

One savvy person took to Twitter on Monday to share a photo of the ad and enquire if anyone else had spotted it. "Anyone see this?" they asked. "An ad ran in Hackney Gazette for a company called Hackney Diamonds teasing Rolling Stones song titles. Their est. date is 1962, same year Stones formed. Website seems to be run by Universal Music, the Stones’ label. A clue their long-awaited new LP is on its way?"

The Rolling Stones released their last album, Blue and Lonesome, in 2016. Despite only featuring cover songs, the record received a litany of positive reviews and even the 2018 Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. Speculation has been brewing for some time now that the band are planning to drop fresh material this autumn, but despite a clear demand for more original tunes, little concrete information has been revealed. One thing fans can expect, however, is that any future album will include a tribute to the Stones' late drummer, Charlie Watts, following his death aged 80 in 2021. He was replaced by Steve Jordan on the band's' 13-date US tour.

"It'll be interesting to find out the dynamics now that [drummer] Steve [Jordan]’s in the band," Keith Richards said at the time. "It's sort of metamorphosing into something else. I was working with Mick [Jagger] last week, and Steve, and we came up with some, eight or nine, new pieces of material. Which is overwhelming by our standards."

Longtime fans of the group have been quick to react to the 'teaser' online, with one person hailing them as 'absolute legends.'

"The Rolling Stones are a freak of nature. If someone had told me in the 80’s (first time I saw them live) they would still be playing 80,000 seat football stadiums and releasing music in 2023 I would have had that person locked away…Hats off to these absolute legends," one person wrote.
