Canelo Alvarez has admitted that he would be open to fighting Jake Paul but wouldn't do so until retiring from boxing.

YouTube boxer Paul has been pushing for a fight against undisputed super-middleweight world champion Alvarez ever since ditching his internet fame for a career in the ring. Alvarez has remained nonchalant when previously question about Paul's callouts but he changed his tune in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club.

"Yeah maybe, but not right now," Alvarez said about possibly fighting Paul. "For me, not right now because I'm chasing other things in my career but you never know, maybe later." The world champion was then asked if a fight against Paul would come after he hangs up his gloves, to which he responded, "Yeah."

Alvarez also said that part of his refusal to fight Paul at this stage in his career is because it would be disrespectful for boxing. Giving a prediction for the bout, Alvarez said it wouldn't last long and admitted that he would carry Paul instead of trying to knock him out early on to put on a show for fans.

Mirror Fighting recently spoke with Alvarez about Paul in New York after the launch press conference for his upcoming world title fight against Jermell Charlo. "My level is another level. But look, I think he needs to enjoy what he's doing and that's it, he needs to calm down and start calling out people at other levels," he said.

Alvarez thinks Paul is having a positive impact on boxing as a whole, but has warned the YouTuber that facing tougher challengers may not end well for him. "I think he needs to focus on what he is doing," Alvarez added. "He's doing good things, [fights with the likes of Nate Diaz], he needs to just enjoy that."

Paul had admitted that he wouldn't beat Alvarez at this stage in his boxing career, but thinks he could with a more few years of perfecting his craft. “I’m predicting what’s going to happen three more years from now. I'm going to get to his skill level and beat him. I have one of the greatest self-belief systems in the world and I know what I’m capable of with this new team. I can give Canelo a serious run for his money," he said.
