Members of the Royal Family have shared their support for the England Lionesses today as they make history in the Women's World Cup.
As President of the FA, the Prince of Wales is among the team's keenest supporters and recently shared a video with Princess Charlotte, eight, to express their sorrow at not being able to travel to Australia in person to cheer them on. Away from his official role, Prince William is an avid football fan and is regularly spotted cheering on Aston Villa alongside Prince George, 10.
But when it comes to playing the game himself, William revealed a sneaky "sniper" tactic he once employed to put off an opponent because "everyone wanted to break [his] legs".
Speaking several years ago on That Peter Crouch Podcast, William revealed that he had jokingly asked his policeman to shine a laser's red dot on the troublesome player while warning “he's following you!"
During the recording, which took place at Kensington Palace before lockdown in March 2020, William confessed: "A long time ago, I got one of my policemen to take a laser pen out with them. And I got him to red mark, red dot one of the players. I kept saying 'see, see what happened to you', I was about 15 at the time I said 'see, he's following you, following you." Former player Crouch threw his head back in laughter, asking: "pretending to have a sniper on him?" with William replying "exactly it, it put him off for about you know 10 minutes."

This isn't the first story to emerge about Prince William being a top target on the sports pitch. Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne was in the same year as the Prince at Eton College and has been seen catching up over the years at various events.
The actor previously opened up about his time at the famous school with William and shared a funny sporting anecdote. Speaking on a US chat show in 2018, Eddie revealed: "I always felt a bit sorry for him because basically any school you played, all they wanted to do was tackle Prince William and they could say, 'I tackled Prince William.'" Eddie went on to admit that Prince William being thrown to the floor was kind of good for him - as it made the match "easier". He added: "So if you were standing next to Prince William, like I was, it was actually quite easy and quite fun."
