Sam Asghari has broken his online silence amid reports his relationship with wife Britney Spears has broken down just over a year on from their wedding, confirming the reports are true.
Writing on his Instagram Stories this evening, Iranian-born Sam said: "After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.
He continued to add: "Sh** happens. Asking for privacy seems rediclulous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful." Britney is yet to comment on the split publicly but told her Instagram followers on Wednesday that she was planning to buy a horse.
Sam's Instagram statement this evening [August 17] follows reports the model and actor has filed for divorce from the pop princess, citing "irreconcilable differences" just over a year after the couple were married. Court documents stated the couple had separated almost three weeks ago, before the official divorce filings were made.
The documents, which were filed at a court in Los Angeles on Wednesday, state that Sam intends to obtain financial support from Spears, and have her pay for his lawyers. The filing also says the value of Britney and Sam's assets, and those they own jointly, has yet to be determined.
'I'm spending £20k on a new bathroom - but won't help my brother out with cash'On Wednesday night, TMZ reported Sam and Britney parted ways after a "nuclear" argument. Sam is said to have moved out of the marital home he shared with Britney. An insider told TMZ: "It's only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce." Allegedly, Sam approached Britney about cheating rumours. While it isn't clear if the rumours are true, the source said that what ensued was a heated argument.
Sam and Britney tied the knot in June last year, just weeks on from the pair sharing some devastating news with their fans. On May 14, Britney announced she had suffered a miscarriage after previously revealing her first child with Sam. The mum-of-two and Sam issued a joint statement to break the sad news.
They told their Instagram followers: ""It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along. However we were overly excited to share the good news.
The joint statement continued: "Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment." Fans rushed to the comment section to send love and support to the couple following the heartbreaking update.
A few weeks on from the couple's sad experience of pregnancy loss, Sam and Britney tied the knot in front of celebrity guests like Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore and Selena Gomez. The couple married on June 9 in a ceremony at their secluded Thousand Oaks home in Los Angeles.
Britney's marriage to Sam was the Gimmie More singer's third, third, having divorced back-up dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two children – Sean and Jayden, in 2007. She was also married to Jason Alexander in 2004, but it was annulled after just 55 hours.
