Bruce Springsteen forced to cancel show dates after being 'taken ill'

Bruce Springsteen 's Twitter account has posted today that he was "taken ill". The post also said that he will be postponing his upcoming concerts and his team is "working on rescheduling the dates".

The music legend was anticipated to perform with the E Street Band at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18. According to the tweet, his team is urging fans to hold onto their tickets for access to the rescheduled dates.

This is not the first show that Bruce has had to postpone this year from health concerns. On March 9, the Nationwide Arena in Ohio announced that his show that night would not move forward. They attributed the issue to "illness", but did not specify further. Just like for Philadelphia, fans were assured that the dates would be rescheduled and that they should keep their original tickets.

Following the cancelled show in Ohio, two more cancellation announcements were made. The first was at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut and the second at MVP Arena in Upstate New York. Both of these cancellations were also attributed to an unspecified illness.

At the time, a member of E Street Band, Steven Van Zandt, reassured fans. He wrote on Twitter : "No need to be anxious or afraid. Nothing serious. Just a temporary situation. We will all be back in full force very soon."

In February, the E Street Band had their own health issues. Van Zandt and Soozie Tyrell were absent from a show in Dallas due to COVID-19, reported the Asbury Park Press.

Steven acknowledged the situation on Twitter yet again. He said: "Sorry folks. Covid."

Bruce has suffered from health issues before. Prior to a tour hiatus from 2017 to 2023, he had been riddled with poor health. He had underwent a surgery to alleviate some chronic numbness that he was experiencing in 2013. The numbness affected his ability to play guitar and was caused by some damaged disks in his neck.

While the surgery didn't directly aim to treat his throat, it did result in his throat being cut open. His vocal cords, which are obviously key in his profession, were tied off so that doctors could put new disk in.

He told Vanity Fair that he was unable to sing for three months. When asked how he had felt, he said: "A little nerve-racking. But it’s been very successful for me.”

Physical health isn't the only historic concern for Bruce. He has previously opened up about his struggles mentally.

Bruce candidly told Esquire : "I've had to deal with a lot of it over the years, and I'm on a variety of medications that keep me on an even keel; otherwise I can swing rather dramatically and... just... the wheels can come off a little bit. So we have to watch, in our family. I have to watch my kids, and I've been lucky there. It ran in my family going way before my dad."

Fans expressed their support in the replies. One wrote: "The main and only focus is on Bruce’s health. Get well and feel better Boss man!"

The Mirror has reached out to Bruce's team for comment.
