Horrified diners were left feeling a little green after teenagers decided to hurl a frog into a McDonald's restaurant.

Customers were munching on burgers and fries when the yobs hurled the poor amphibian into the main dining area, forcing the joint to close.

The frog, which police later said was already dead, was thrown around the McDonald's branch in Swansea leaving staff hopping mad.

South Wales Police were called to the scene to deal with the yobs, while the restaurant had to temporarily close for health and safety reasons.

Officers at the scene at first said the pond creature had been alive when thrown, although later confirmed it had in fact croaked it.

"A group of older boys thought it amusing to throw a live frog in the restaurant where families were eating, causing the fast food chain to close," the force tweeted.

"Images captured and identities sought. Appropriate action will be taken."

Police Sergeant Daniel Kathrens from the force said: “South Wales Police was called just before 4.30pm on Tuesday 21st February, with a report of anti-social behaviour in McDonald’s in Morfa Shopping Park.

“The report indicated that three youths had brought a dead frog into the premises and set it on a number of tables before allegedly throwing the amphibian into the service area.

"The outlet closed for a period of time to reinstate the appropriate food hygiene and safety standards.

“Inquiries are ongoing to identify the youths.”

McDonalds has been introducing tougher measures to prevent youths causing a nuisance in its restaurants.

A branch in Wrexham, north Wales, recently announced it would be playing Beethoven and restricting access to its WiFi to deter youngsters from gathering and intimidating customers.

The decision came after police in the town were called multiple times over a particular group of teens, who at one point threw coins at staff.

McDonald's was contacted for comment.
