Inside millionaire's abandoned mansion filled with creepy taxidermy animals

An abandoned mansion believed to belong to a millionaire has been found filled with taxidermy.

The property in South Wales, which is estimated to have been abandoned for at least 20 years, is full of animals in every corner. It is believed the owner was a hunter who kept trophies, according to urban explorer Daniel Sims who visited the mansion, taking photos and videos of it.

The 34-year-old said the home would be worth "over a million" even if it is extremely damaged. He said: "The house itself has seen extensive damage now, with floors collapsing, but would be worth over a million – just the house itself and land, which is extensive.

Mr Sims said: "The house itself has seen extensive damage now, with floors collapsing, but would be worth over a million – just the house itself and land, which is extensive. The owners had a lot of money, which you could tell from a lot of the older antiques and collectibles kept here.

"We found extensive taxidermy paws, claws, skulls, and heads at the place. There were other taxidermy animals here including a tiger head, but this was stolen. The kitchen had everything left out like someone had just been sitting making food and living their life which is quite creepy but as you go through the place you can see how damaged the place is.

"I was surprised that the clock had not been stolen and seeing the old weapons was awesome to see. I was amazed and saddened [to be here]. Amazed that such a place is just abandoned and left and had everything left behind, and really makes you think if you have no one and no one to inherit, what happens to your possessions and memories once you go? Saddened as a place that was clearly very grand is slowly being taken back by nature and the elements and will end up in ruin."

He added: "The animals and skulls really set the tone of the place. We even found some lampshades which are made of animal skin. The made four-poster bed just suggests the place was abandoned and left very suddenly and very valuable things just out in the open suggesting that no one apart from vandals and thieves has been here."

Earlier this week, we published pictures of a housing estate that once housed troops and their families and now stands abandoned and left to become derelict. Craigiehall was an army base located near Cramond, Edinburgh, and until 2015 served as the headquarters of the British Army in Scotland. To accommodate the troops and their families, a housing estate was built on Riverside Road and Primrose Drive.

Craigiehall base closed for good in 2019 when Army Headquarters Scotland merged with 51st Infantry Brigade at Forthside Barracks in Stirling. The sound of children playing has long been replaced by an eerie presence, and despite nearby security, almost every single house in the area has been vandalised. Several windows have been smashed and fences destroyed by people who have broken into the site.
