Overwatch 2 will experience downtime today, with Blizzard's highly-anticipated Season 6 content update set to roll out on all platforms.

Overwatch 2 will get its biggest update to date later this evening, with Season 6 – named Overwatch: Invasion – set to introduce Invasion story missions, a new hero and various new modes. But what definitely won't be introduced in this update is the previously cancelled story-focused PvE mode, which was controversially abandoned by Activision Blizzard, with the publisher admitting it's prioritising the live service element of the game.

The good news is that there's a brand-new hero named Illari, a support hero of Peruvian origin who's rocking a solar-powered gunblade that heals teammates, rather than frying enemies. The bad news is that to access the new Invasion story missions, you'll need to part with your hard-earned cash to play them.

But before you can jump into the new content, there's the small matter of some server downtime, with maintenance set to kick in prior to the update going live. Here's when Overwatch 2 will experience server maintenance downtime ahead of the Season 6 update.

Overwatch 2 maintenance schedule

Blizzard has confirmed via its support page that Overwatch 2 maintenance will begin at 6pm BST / 1pm EDT / 10am PDT on Thursday, August 10, with the maintenance confirmed to end later the same day at 8pm BST / 3pm EDT / 12pm PDT. During this time, players will be unable to access the game at all, with matchmaking completely offline on all platforms including PlayStation, Xbox or PC, similar to how Blizzard handles Diablo 4 maintenance downtime.

It's also likely that players will be unable to jump into new games slightly prior to the maintenance start time specified above, as Blizzard begins to disable matchmaking services. But once the two-hour-long maintenance is over, players will be able to jump straight into the Overwatch 2 Season 6 content, and can start experiencing Overwatch: Invasion for themselves.

Although, remember that you'll need to buy either an Overwatch 2 Invasion Bundle for $15 (approximately £11.77 / AU$22.95) or an Overwatch 2 Ultimate Invasion Bundle for $40 (approximately £31.39 / AU$61.20) to be able to access the new Invasion story mission content that comes with Season 6.
