Rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

In December of 2022, Tory was found guilty of three felonies regarding the shooting. On 12 July 2020, after leaving a pool party at Kylie Jenner's Hollywood Hills home, Tory – Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson – and Megan were heading to their rental home in a black SUV driven by Tory's security guard.

An argument broke out causing the security guard to pull over. Megan exited the car and, according to the prosecution, Tory pulled out a handgun and shot at her feet. She was left wounded and with bullet fragments in her feet. It wasn't until a month later when Megan took to Instagram Live to publically call out Tory for shooting her.

Tory, 31, has maintained his innocence, saying that Kelsey Harris, who was also in the car with them, was the one who shot her. He claims that Megan's management team has been trying to frame him.

At the trial, Megan said: "I don't want to be on this Earth. I wish he would have shot and killed me if I knew I would go through this torture."

During the trial, after months of denying being in a romantic relationship with Tory, Megan finally testified that the two had a relationship after bonding over losing their mothers. She shared that she denied this because she was disgusted she "shared her body with someone who would shoot her."

After a day of deliberating, the jury convicted Tory of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging the firearm with gross negligence. The Canadian rapper has appealed and maintained his innocence, with his lawyers saying that his alcoholism was the blame for his actions.

Prosecutors called for Tory to be sentenced to 13 years in prison, while Tory's legal team is asking for probation and a drug treatment program to help him with his alcohol abuse. But in the end, Tory received 10 years in prison.

Megan hasn't spoken about the incident since April, when she opened up in an interview with Elle Magazine. She said: "I view myself as a survivor, because I have truly survived the unimaginable. Not only did I survive being shot by someone I trusted and considered a close friend, but I overcame the public humiliation of having my name and reputation dragged through the mud by that individual for the entire world to see."

After the verdict came in, the LA District Attorney said the high-profile nature of the case helped bring attention to the issue of violence against women.

Prosecutor George Gascón said: "The fact that she is a successful entertainer has brought an important spotlight on the issue of violence against women."
