Jake Paul didn't want to burn himself out by trying to stop Nate Diaz after dropping him in their fight.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul got back to winning ways on Saturday night as he beat UFC legend Diaz by unanimous decision. 'The Problem Child' was fighting for the first time since suffering his first boxing loss at the hands of Tommy Fury earlier this year whilst Diaz was making his ring debut on the night after parting ways with the UFC last September.
Paul came firing out the blocks when the fight started and had Diaz hurt in the early stages before eventually dropping him in the fifth round. The YouTuber did stalk his rival down in the following moments, but admitted he was wary of wasting all his energy given Diaz's ability to withstand punishment.

“My motor was running hot and I was punching him hard and hard and hard, and he wasn’t going down,” Paul said. “He was standing there. So I didn’t want to burn out and let him catch a win and come back with something. I was being patient, being smart, and was looking for the kill but at the end of the day he withstood a bunch of big, big, big punches.”

“I don’t know how he survived the first round but he’s a dog and I walked the dog. For sure [he felt my power], I could see it the whole fight. In the first round, I seen his eyes light up and he was like, ‘Ok, they talk about this kid’s power, but when you feel it, it’s different.’"

Paul feels a weight has been lifted off his shoulders after bouncing back to winning ways and credited Diaz for being his toughest opponent to date. "I was just having fun and that was the missing ingredient in my last fight, now I am having fun back on that side of things and Nate was the toughest opponent I've fought to date," he added.
"One thing I took from it was the confidence I can do 10 rounds with non-stop power-punching, that's great experience. Just getting more and more comfortable in the ring, learning to box and slow things down. I knew he was trying to take brakes so I would bounce on him when he would do that."
