Fans of Heartstopper have been left 'in tears' by an emotional scene between Charlie and Nick from the latest series, with some even hailing the performance of actors Joe Locke and Kit Connor as deserving of an award.

The highly-anticipated second season of the Netflix drama dropped on August 3, delivering eight episodes of wholesome entertainment for adolescents and adults alike. Based on the bestselling book series by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper follows the story of protagonist Charlie Spring and his loyal friend group navigating life as LGBTQ+ teenagers in a heteronormative world. It also explores issues such as bullying, mental health, and family strife.

Viewers are already anxious for details on season three, having been left on the edge of their seats with the cliffhanging finale of the season. While there's no shortage of poignant moments from Heartstopper season two, there's one scene in particular that appears to have had quite an impact on audiences.

In the final episode of the eight-part season, Charlie confides in Nick about his struggle with an eating disorder and self harm. In the heartbreaking face-to-face, the fifteen-year-old admits that he cut himself after the homophobic bullying at school got so bad when he first came out.

"People would just call me disgusting to my face," Charlie says. "And it went on for so long that I think I started to believe what they were saying. It made me really hate myself, so much that I...I used to cut myself sometimes. I don't want to feel like that anymore." A visibly distraught Nick then leans in to give Charlie a tight hug, before asking, "Do you still do that now?"

When reassured that the self harm is no longer happening, the lovable rugby player asks Charlie to promise to tell him if it ever gets that bad again. "I've done so many things that were scary in the past few months that were scary because you were there holding my hand, and I want to be that for you, too," he adds. "You're my boyfriend."

After a tender kiss, Nick begins to shower Charlie with a litany of sweet compliments. "I love your hair so much, I love your eyes...I love..." only for his mum Sarah, played by the legendary Olivia Coleman, to announce her arrival and cut him off mid-sentence.

Nick and Charlie's intimate conversation has had quite the reaction online, with many people taking to social media to share their emotional responses. "This scene really broke me," one viewer wrote on Twitter. "I can’t even put it into words. Award winning imo."

Another person commended how Nick responded to the difficult news, writing, "Love that in that last scene when charlie confessed to cutting himself in the past, nick made him promise to *tell him* if it ever gets that bad again, not promise to never sh again cause that's the worst thing a person can ask."
