Although Season of the Malignant is still underway, players curious about when the next Diablo 4 season 2 begins can rest easy knowing that a release window for it is out there.

Diablo 4 is the first instalment in the series to be treated as a live service game, similar to the likes of Destiny 2, Fortnite and Call of Duty. The latest Diablo game differs, however, in that it’s primarily PvE, which puts the burden on Activision Blizzard to keep the content train moving. So far it’s done a pretty decent job since the game launched, most notably with the arrival of Season of the Malignant – Diablo 4’s debut season that introduces new objectives, loot and endgame activities.

Diablo 4 Season 1 might still be underway, but already some players are wondering about the Diablo 4 Season 2 release date; not least in the hopes that it’ll be bigger and better than the current one. Fortunately, developer Activision Blizzard has already made clear how it plans to handle Diablo 4’s seasons publicly. Thanks to this, the Diablo 4 Season 2 release date is easy to speculate.

What is the Diablo 4 Season 2 release date?

While the explicit date isn’t yet known, it only takes loading up Diablo 4 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC to see when the current season ends. Season of the Malignant is confirmed to officially come to a close on October 9, 2023. Diablo 4 Season 1 kicked off on July 20, 2023, so this lines up perfectly with Activision Blizzard’s plan to have a new season take place within the game every three months.

Because of this, while a hard release date is currently not known, we can make an educated guess that the Diablo 4 Season 2 release date will be some time in late October. This will then likely lead us through to December / January, allowing Activision Blizzard to start the new year afresh in the form of Diablo 4 Season 3, with another three seasons set to occur throughout the rest of 2024. Four seasons per year is the goal the studio set itself.

It's worth remembering that, while the Diablo 4 Season 2 release date is still elusive, seasons will sit separately from Diablo 4 expansions, which are said to be more sizeable and won't be free. Activision Blizzard has confirmed that at least two Diablo 4 expansions are in the works, but there’s no word as to when they’ll release. Until then, seasons are set to continue to help satiate Diablo 4 players’ hunger for new ways to play.
