Coronation Street has recast a character after 11 years of them being on the ITV soap, with the original actress having left the role.

Spoiler images for next week have revealed one character is back on screen but with a brand new look. This is because the actress playing the character has been replaced in a surprise recast.

Ruby Dobbs, the daughter of Tyrone Dobbs and stepdaughter of Fiz Brown, will feature in new scenes next week with some of the younger cast. But actress Macy Alabi, who has played the role for the past 11 years, has bowed out of the show.

The Mirror understands actress Macy decided to leave the role, and now Ruby will be played by another child actor. According to spoilers, Billie Naylor is taking on the role from next week, and will appear in new scenes in upcoming episodes.

Macy was one of the original actresses to play Ruby, taking on the role in 2012, and appearing since then. She has been in the role since Ruby was born in September 2012.

One of Macy's last scenes saw her wave goodbye to her stepmother Fiz in May, as she headed to Norwich for a job opportunity. As for actress Billie, her arrival comes at amid a new storyline for the youngster, which could see her fallout with sister Hope Stape.

Ruby and Hope will be seen going head-to-head at the Little Big Shotz classes at the community centre this summer. Run by barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth, the classes see the kids performing for a new show.

Hope is expecting to land the lead role in the summer spectacular, but she's let furious when her sister Ruby gets it instead. Other youngsters including Eliza are instead picked to be Ruby's backing singers.

Knowing Hope's temper and her history, we wouldn't be surprised if she plans to steal the role from her sibling. It wouldn't be the first time she's harmed Ruby either, even biting her arm in one shocking moment.

Ruby is the daughter of former soap villain Kirsty Soames. Kirsty was killed off on the soap in 2021, leaving Ruby devastated. Tyrone and Fiz have raised Ruby and Hope on the Cobbles. Viewers can see Ruby return to screens next week.

airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and X.
