A large and eerie abandoned house in Wrexham Valley is set to go to auction after years of neglect left it in a terrible state. Gwern Y Pale has sat on top of the Ceiriog Valley in Dolywern for years and despite its beautiful surroundings is in need of a major overhaul to return it to its former glory. It has been allowed to grow into severe disrepair with each room full of rubbish. Pictures show rooms literally piled high with junk, including clothes, fabrics, cabinets, shelves, litter, and tons of general debris. Walls are peeling and falling apart, while one picture shows a ceiling that has entirely caved in leaving a gaping hole.
Large patches of mould can be found on the walls, some rooms are actually inaccessible due to the rubbish, and the property agents themselves have said some parts of the building are not safe to enter. Every piece of furniture appears to be in disrepair, the Daily Post reported. A cat box without its door, what appears to be a TV on the floor, and a bathroom cabinet full of old medicines are just some of the random objects that have remained on the property.
But most of the items of rubbish are indistinguishable - due to the sheer volume of them. One can just about imagine the picturesque family home this detached three-bedroom house may once have been - but it is far from habitable and requires serious work. The outside is a less bleak picture, with luscious green surroundings and the homely design of a country cottage.
But it will look far better once the creepy dead vines crawling across the house's roof and outer walls are removed, and more of the overgrown vegetation is chopped back. With nearly an acre of land to the house, there is potential for a beautiful and spacious garden. The gardens and grounds extend to approximately 0.86 acres. They have become overgrown with self-seeded trees and there are dilapidated out-buildings including a store and a summerhouse, which also require refurbishment.
The property agent bills the listing as "an excellent opportunity for a significant program of renovation or a 'grand scheme' for a replacement dwelling" - so prospective buyers may have to knock down the house and start anew. Gwern Y Pale will be sold by public auction at 2pm on September 21 at The Lion Quays Resort, Weston Rhyn, Gobowen. A guide price of £185,000 has been set for the property.
