Food fans shocked taste-testing new 'gourmet' burger from fast food chain

A panel of burger fans were left shocked after taste-testing a seemingly gourmet meal – which turned out to be from Burger King.

The group of seven adults devoured one of two juicy burgers, either chicken or beef – praising how fresh and well-cooked they were, and the tangy, flavoursome, chimichurri sauce.

They even described it as “a level above” the typical fast-food burger – with one man saying it was the best chicken burger he had ever tasted.

So the group was left amazed after comedian Laura Smyth, who led the tasting session, revealed the two Smoky Chimichurri burgers were actually the latest offering from the Burger King menu.

The two new burgers were created by new premium fusion burger brand, “Gourmet Kings”, and will be available to order from Burger King restaurants from August 1, when they will also launch exclusively for delivery on Deliveroo.

The amusing set-up followed research which found 49% of Brits don’t think you can get a gourmet burger from a fast-food restaurant.

The study of 2,000 adults revealed 61% don’t think it’s possible to experience a decadent meal out if you’re on a budget, and 72% believe you have to be willing to pay a high price to enjoy a quality gourmet spread.

Half of those polled, via OnePoll, also didn’t believe you could purchase a gourmet burger for an affordable price, with 39% believing only premium restaurants offer such menu items.

A spokesman from Burger King® UK, said: “It's a common misconception that gourmet food is out of reach, so we wanted to prove once and for all that our guests can enjoy a premium quality burger for great value, with our new Smoky Chimichurri burger.”

Burger lovers can get their hands on the new Smoky Chimichurri with a buy-one-get-one-free offer from 28th July until 31st July via the Burger King app, before the product launches nationwide on 1st August.
