When looking for the perfect job, many of us will be tempted by salaries that will allow us to live comfortably, but there are of course other factors to consider, including work-life balance, flexibility, and finding an employer that treats you with respect.
A woman who has worked as a lawyer for 10 years has urged people not to follow her chosen path, claiming that her six-figure income just "isn't worth it". For this lawyer, the best part of her job is the money she earns, and she feels she is paid fairly for the work she does. Unfortunately, this appears to be where her passion ends, and she wouldn't recommend others enter a profession for financial gain alone.

Her answer was refreshingly honest (tiktok.com/@aydanalsaad)The London-based woman was recently interviewed by TikTok creator Aydan Alsaad, for a series about pay transparency and career information. When asked what advice she'd like to pass on to any budding lawyers, she didn't hold back with her refreshingly candid answer.
The lawyer, whose motto in life is "if you're going to do something, do it well", told Aydan: "It's not worth it. It's really not worth it. Do something that feeds your soul, and not your wallet."
When asked whether her current career was feeding her soul, she confirmed that it wasn't, adding that she currently isn't too sure what else she'd like to do, remarking "If I knew I would be doing it".

Aydan then asked her a few follow-up questions to try and determine a new career path, asking what her greatest fear was ("failure"), and the part of a job that gives her the most satisfaction ("using [her] brain"). When asked whether she'd start her own business, she responded: "To be honest, I don't have the imagination it requires to have your own business. It requires imagination and a discipline that comes from doing it for yourself and I don't have that. If I didn't have to get up and be somewhere, I wouldn't get up, unless it was like to do yoga."
The comments section was soon filled with a variety of comments, from those who wholeheartedly agreed with her philosophy, to others who felt people should be "feeding their soul" outside of working hours.
One person wrote: "As someone that did something to feed my soul, I have to say: feed your wallet cause you can feed your soul after work if you can afford to live." Another remarked: "Was in the exact same position. On a very similar wage. Was in the game for three and a half years (eight and a half including education). I left two weeks ago. Best decision of my life."
A third person, themselves a legal professional, advised: "I'm a lawyer. A lot of people say it's not worth it because of the hours and how it consumes you with office politics. Pick a firm you like."
